Reunion infested with riddles!

EARLY TIMES REPORT

Jammu, Jan 21: As the Kashmiri pundits after thirty years of exodus are demanding their return to Kashmir, there are questions being raised whether the government is in possession of figurers by virtue of which it could initiate the return of KPs.
According to the government, it has no information about the total number of KPs who have returned to their native places. Further the government admitted that it has no details about the all sort of assistance provided to them for their rehabilitation.
Furthermore, the government of Jammu and Kashmir doesn’t know what is the number of pandit families who have not migrated from their native places in Kashmir valley at the onset of militancy.
Meanwhile, the government admittance to such a startling revelation has once again caused stir in the public domain with people coming to know how serious were the successive regimes of the state to bring back the KPs. Though there is war of words being witnessed between the opposition national conference and ruling PDP over the return of the pandits to their homeland, the efforts made in the past were so meagre that reflection of the sorry state of affairs becomes evident and clear.
The government in the lower house further stated that it has been asked by the Government of India to approve the construction of additional 6000 Transit Accommodations for migrant Pandits who are in the government service in Kashmir Valley. The government said they have also been asked to create additional 3000 jobs for migrant Pandit youth for which, they said, the process is efforts are on.
The government said that under the package of Rs 1618.40 cr sanctioned in 2008-9, the assistance of Rs 7.5 lakh each is being provided to those who intend to return back to their native places.
For those migrants who couldn’t return to their native places because of some reasons, the controversial housing colonies (Pandit townships) have been proposed to be constructed in certain areas of Kashmir, the government said.
Under the package, the Pandits will also be provided a one-time grant for the revival of their agriculture & horticulture land in Valley. During this period they will continue to receive the financial assistance and scholarships for their school going children.
At present when the government is claiming to have been taking series of measures to ensure that the Kashmiri pundits resettle in Kashmir and are provided with the necessary facilities, there is a big question mark over how it can succeed in KP return project when it has no numbers and no figures about those who have to leave in the middle of chaos and confusion back in 90s.
Will the government holds a fresh survey to know the exact details of the families who left Kashmir and need immediate rehabilitation. Only time is going to answer.
