EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 22: Expressing grave concern over the official apathy towards daily wagers of PHE Department, the PHE Employees United Front (EUF) regretted that no attention is being to the grievances of such a depressed class of workers.
Addressing a joint press conference here today, senior leaders of the Front-Bakshi Singh, Balbhadar Raj, Kulwant Singh, Tanveer Hussain, Mitul Sharma, Bhanu Partap, Ravi Kumar, Kartar Chand Dubey and Deepak Gupta said that daily wagers who have been working since year 1994 in the department continuously and providing un¬interrupted water supply to the people in their areas.
The numbers of daily wagers in the department is 22053 and not even a single worker has been regularized after 25-years by the erstwhile state governments, they added. The leaders said that now, Jammu Kashmir has become Union Territory and workers were expecting that their long pending issues may be resolved shortly as per the rules of UT or at the patterns of central government employees and workers but the daily wagers of the department are again getting ignored.
They said that that the Front wants solution to the long pending issues of the workers through dialogue and peaceful manners and in this regard a charter of demands and an appointment letter both was submitted to the LG, Garish Chander Murmu La month ago but our request has not been considered. We have observed that the present government is also following the foot prints of the past governments and seems non-serious about the problems of the daily wagers of the department. Now, no option has been left for us except to adopt the path of struggle, they added.
It has unanimously decided to launch an aggressive agitation and in first phase a 24- hour long ‘Tool Down Strike’ will be observed from February 7 if the present government fails to solve the demands of the employees and daily wagers of the PHE Department by February 6, the leaders informed.
