Yoga competition commence at Jammu

JAMMU, Jan 22: A mesmerizing first day of Yoga competition was witnessed at Guru Gobind higher Secondary School Jammu as participants from different schools, colleges and universities took part in it.
The Yoga competition is being organized by Yoga Society J&K of Patanjali Yogpeeth in association with different yoga bodies falling under Indian Yoga Association at venue of Shri Guru Gobind Secondary School Jammu. While as qualifying rounds and prelims rounds took place on the first day of the competition
An impressive inaugural ceremony was held with colourful performances by school participants along with mantra chantings and prayers for welfare of humanity. A Group yoga WELCOME performance was given by students from Heritage School.
The traditional lamp was lit by Chief Guest Shiv Kumar Sharma President Indian Style Wrestling Association J & K along with guest of honour Dr Taran Singh - Former Med. Supdt. - Govt Ayurveda Hospital, Sardar Harbans Singh Chairman Shri Guru Gobind Singh Hr Sec. School. During the inaugural function of the Yoga competition, Chief Guest Shiv Kumar Sharma -President Indian Style Wrestling Association J&K appreciated the efforts of Yoga society to give a new platform to Yoga aspirants of J&K and he inspired the participants to give their best to reach national level and bring glory to J & K in the field of Yoga too.
He said, "We owe a lot to Swami Ramdev and our PM Narinder Modi to bring yoga to common masses" and also lauded the efforts of the core team of the organizers who have worked day and night to make this event happen.
On first day of the completion, students of a slum school named Sunrise Educational Trust enthralled the audience with their spirit of yoga asana skills. Eleven individuals from Jr. category Boys, four from Jr. Girl, six from Sr. Boys, Eight from Sr. girl are selected for final rounds to be held tomorrow.
In group performances Jr. boys 4, Jr. Girls - 4, Sr. Boys 1, Sr. Girls 2 are selected for final round. Final rounds will take place on 23 Jan. First winner from these categories will be selected for State level competition.
