JK Taxes Department set to register 20% growth in tax collection by end of 2019-20

Jammu, Jan 23: The Jammu and Kashmir Taxes Department is all set to register 20 per cent growth in tax collection by the end of financial year 2019-2020.
This information was given here today during a review meeting of State Taxes Department chaired here today by Financial Commissioner, Finance, Dr.Arun Kumar Mehta. It was revealed that J&K is targeting the growth of 20% in few heads of tax collection against the target set for the current fiscal.
Commissioner State Taxes, J&K, P.K Bhat, Additional Commissioner, Taxes Department, Jammu, Rifat Kohli, Deputy Commissioners, Additional Commissioners and State Tax Officers (STOs) from Jammu were present in the meeting while Additional Commissioner, State Taxes Kashmir, Manzoor Ahmad Bhat and all the Deputy Commissioners, Additional Commissioners and STOs of the department participated in the meeting through Video Conferencing from Srinagar.
It was informed in the meeting that under the Heads of Stamps and MST the growth would expectedly increase by 16% and 4% respectively.
The FC, Finance complimented the officers for their efforts towards registering a growth of about 11% over the target till date. He directed for organising a massive campaign to make concerned aware about the benefits of timely payment of Goods & Services Tax (GST). He further directed for speedy filling up of all vacant posts in the department.
Dr. Mehta asked the officers to increase the intensity of physical verifications of goods traded or in transit. He also suggested the concerned to make use of economic intelligence, coordination, cohesion and convergence to further improve their performance. He further asked them to set targets for each officer/official regarding the performance indicators like Revenue realisation, Registrations, Inspections and Cancellations. He appealed the traders to resort to proper invoicing only besides asking concerned to motivate traders in a positive manner to file returns without affecting their businesses.
The meeting was informed that revenue realisation up to December, 2019 under different heads is satisfactory while the actual realisation is expected to jump ahead of the set target. It was informed that department is making all out efforts to give a transparent and compliant environment to the tax payers and recover only right amount of taxes from the payers.
The meeting decided to devise and implement programmes for enhancing capacity building of the existing manpower of the department by way of giving proper training and infrastructure to them. It was further decided to use all the modern techniques and technology to usher the department on the track of providing hassle free services to the general public.
