Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 24: The casual approach of Irrigation Department for not conducting proper survey before taking up irrigation schemes has resulted in abandonment of many projects midway due to technical glitches erupted while their execution causing huge loss of funds.
Sources told Early Times that two irrigation projects were taken by the department for district Doda got withheld after incurring over Rs80 lakhs due to development of sliding zone and non clearance from forest department while execution of these projects.
“As per guidelines, preliminary survey, geological investigation have to be conducted, forest clearance is required from the concerned department before taking up projects but non-fulfilment of pre-requisites led to non-development of project and consequently resulted in abandonment/ change of proposals,” they said.
Astonishingly, due to apathetic attitude of Irrigation Department the one of the project, which was stopped was to transferred to Hydraulic Division Ramban due to which local populace was deprived of the benefits and other project was abandoned due to severe damage to project from continuous sliding at different spots from the head works but shockingly no action was taken up by the division to restore the damage portion.
