BANDIPORA, Jan 25: Ahead of 71st Republic day functions, Bandipora Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested active over ground workers (OGW's) of Lashkar-e-Toiba militant outfit in the district.
SSP Bandipora Rahul Malik told Early Times over the phone that during a cordon and search operation by joint team of Army's 13 RR and Bandipora Police at different areas of Bandipora like SK Bala, Hajjin, Chanpora Nadihal and Sumlar areas and seven over ground workers (OGW's) were apprehended.
Huge arms and ammunition including 2 pistols , 2 UBGL thrower, 6 UBGL MAG'S , 10 AK 47 Magzines, 512 AK 47 rounds and 2 bore sets were recovered from their procession, said SSP.
He added the seven were active OGWs of HM and Let outfits, adding that a case under FIR number 04/20120 under various section of UAP Act has been registered in Police Station Bandipora and investigation is going on.
Meanwhile it is also learnt that, thousand of security personnel have been deployed and CCTV cameras have been also put in place at strategic locations at the venue of Republic day celebrations, so that the security agencies can keep vigil on all the public moments.
Multi-layered security arrangements are in place, adding that high tech security grid have been installed at RD avenues in NKR.
The police official said that the security forces have been asked to remain alert and more check points have been installed.
"Our foremost priority is to ensure the Republic day passes off peacefully, even though the full dress rehearsal was held yesterday at all district police lines", the official informed.
All the District Development Commissioners (DDCs) of north Kashmir, including Bandipora, Shahbaz Mirza, Kupwara Anshul Garg, and of Baramulla, Dr G N Itoo will take salute on march past parade at their district headquarters.
It is pertinent to mention here that, for the first time, the chairpersons of the Block Development Councils (BDCs) will take salute on todays 71st Republic day at Block Development Offices (BDOs) in the UTs of J&K.
