BARAMULLA, Jan 25: Union Minister for Information Technology and Communications, Ravi Shankar Prasad Saturday said that districts form key entities for the execution of any government welfare programme and district level cyber space acts an important link between administration and citizens.
The Union Minister made these remarks here in the presence of Advisor to Lieutenant Governor Farooq Khan after launching website for Srinagar and Baramulla districts developed using Secure, Scalable and Sugamya Website As A Service (S3WaaS) framework.
The website has been designed and developed by and shall be hosted and maintained by National Informatics Centre (NIC).
In his address, the Union Minister said that districts are the key entities in the government structure where actual execution of schemes and programmes take place and district level websites are implicit cyberspace and an important link between the administration and citizens.
S3WaaS framework has been envisaged to bridge this gap and built with an objective to empower the district administrations to generate, configure, deploy and manage secure, scalable and accessible websites for publishing district-specific information and services.
Regarding the functioning of Internet Facilitation Centres (IFCs), State Informatics Officer NIC, J&K apprised the Union Minister that NIC Barmulla has established these centres in District Baramulla in collaboration with the district administration and so far more than one lakh users have availed internet facilities at these centres.
The users include students and faculty members of various schools, colleges and universities, doctors, paramedics and faculty members of associated hospitals of Government Medical College Baramulla, businessmen, tourists, hoteliers, contractors etc.
It was said that district level officers/officials used the internet facility at these centres for their official day-to-day work like uploading / downloading of data regarding centrally sponsored schemes, tendering, GST returns, income tax filing, and accessing mail service.
Among others, District Development Commissioner Baramulla Dr GN Itoo, State Informatics Officer NIC J&K Abhay Kumar, District Informatics Officer Baramulla Sheikh Barkatullah, District Informatics Officer Srinagar Farooq Ahmad and other concerned were also present on the occasion.
