To give Mehbooba a message Jammu PDP invites Beigh as chief guest in R Day function

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 26: Division within PDP is certain within many groups after Jammu wing of the party has invited Muzaffar Hussain Beigh to preside over Republic Day function at party headquarters at Jammu. Decision of Jammu based leaders to invited Beigh to hoist national tricolor has given a clear message to the leadership that they will not accept any “anti-national” as their leader in the party.
Credible sources said that decision to invite Beigh as chief guest in the Republic Day function was taken much before announcement of Padma award. “Most of the Jammu based leaders of PDP are with Muzaffar Beigh who is known for speaking truth on all issues”, a senior PDP leader told The Early Times. On the condition of anonymity, the leader said that decision to invite Beigh was taken to give a clear message to Kashmir based leaders who have been preaching secessionism and anti- national approach just to befool the people. Credible sources said that majority of the Jammu based leaders were of the view of the Beigh is secular face of the party so it is in the interest of the people to invite him as chief guest in the Republic Day function. Pertinent to mention to here that Beigh on January 9 took a dig at party chief Mehbooba Mufti over her remarks in which she had linked holding of the Tricolour to the abrogation of Article 370 and said such “statements resulted in downgrading Jammu and Kashmir from a state to Union Territory”. Beigh, a former Deputy Chief Minister was answering a query about Mehbooba Mufti's earlier remarks that no one will hold tricolour in J-K if Art 370 is tampered with.
“Statements like that resulted in downgrading J-K from state to Union Territory. That did not help us. That should not have been made,”, he had stated.
“My opinion is that if you want to talk about issues relating to people of Jammu and Kashmir, you will have to talk in a dignified and civilised manner. You can't achieve anything by coercing Prime Minister, Home Minister or NSA,” he said.
