Early Times Report

Srinagar, Jan 26: Even as the National Investigation Agency has taken over the case of suspended Deputy Superintendent of Police, Devinder Singh who was caught ferrying three terrorists in Kashmir on January 11, the investigators have found that “black-sheep” had already spend a whopping around Rs one crore on the construction of his villa here.
As per the sources in the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Devinder was constructing a huge four storey villa in plush Shivpora locality of Srinagar and that estimated around Rs one crore had already been spend on the construction measuring around 3,000 sft on each floor.
“The kind of work done and the kind of costly material used on the construction till now suggests that almost Rs one crore has already been spend on the construction and the full construction in such cases would need another two to Rs three crore,” said a police official on the condition of anonymity. Sources said the construction material suppliers and the contractor who was executing the work were likely to be questioned on who was funding the mega construction and what was the mode of payment.
A senior official told Early Times that the completion of the villa would cost around Rs three crore. “The expenditure on this construction alone is disproportionate to his known sources of income,” the official said. It is pertinent to mention that at least three assault weapons and ammunition were recovered from the house where Devinder was putting up in the same locality where his new villa was coming up. Over Rs seven lakh in cash were also recovered, while his children are studying abroad. The intelligence agencies have been of the opinion that the terror groups and Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence had been funding Devinder through hawala channels. “The hawala channels that were funding him will certainly be a big expose and the nation needs to know about it,” said the official. Meanwhile, the NIA has started questioning Devinder Singh who along with three terrorists have been taken for a remand of a fortnight.
