Jammu is not Kashmir
1/28/2020 9:41:40 PM
Lieutenant Governor, of the newly carved out Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Girish Chandra Murmu, during his Republic Day speech once again justified the imposition of restrictions in J&K, especially Kashmir, post August 5, 2019.
He made it clear that had the government not taken the preventive measures, Pakistan and its stooges in Kashmir would have ensured that Valley gets drenched in blood.
Jammu too suffered due to the restrictions which were imposed in Kashmir but the people of the Jammu region exhibited patience and allowed the situation to become normal. After nearly 5 months, the administration ordered the resumption of 2G internet services in Jammu region but the resumption of these services has not proved to be of any great help to the people due to the choked speed of the internet and access being granted to only a limited number of websites.
The Lieutenant Governor thanked people for extending their cooperation. People were hopeful that the LG would announce the resumption of high speed internet services as gift to people of Jammu region on the occasion of 71st Republic Day. But it did not happen.
One can understand that Pakistan is a great threat to peace and tranquillity. And it is waiting for the internet services to resume fully in the Valley so that it can carry forward its propaganda through internet. It has been established beyond doubt that Pakistan used internet to spread venom against India in Kashmir. The internet was also used by the neighbouring country to spread radicalization.
Kashmir has been more vulnerable than Jammu and many people believe that restrictions which were imposed on internet in the Valley were justified to a certain extent. Unfortunately Jammu seems to be paying a heavy price for being clubbed with Kashmir. Keeping people of Jammu region deprived of the high speed internet services, even after more than 5 months of J&K's reorganisation, needs to be looked into.
Jammu is not Kashmir. People of Jammu region have always stood like a rock with the country since 1947. They cannot be painted with the same brush. All the attempts of Pakistan to disrupt normal life in Jammu during the past three decades have not yielded any results as the nationalist people of Jammu region have always given befitting reply to the enemies and their agents.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration needs to think seriously about restoring internet fully in the Jammu region rather than keeping it suspended for a few more months.
