Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 2: The Education Department in Kishtwar District hit by another scandal involving the supply of science kits to various schools in Kishtwar District under Serva Siksha Abhyan, now renamed as Samagra Siksha Abhyan under centrally sponsored scheme wherein an important component of the science kits Viz Microscopes found missing from these science kits provided to the schools during last two seasons.
As per the details available with “Early Times”, hundreds of schools were provided science kits, mathematics kits and other subject material kits for demonstrations before the students so that they could get first hand experience of using these science tools, but surprisingly the microscopes found missing from these kits supplied in Education zone of Drabshalla. Each microscope according to the officials cost around Rs.70000 to Rs. 80000.
Many Teachers inform the Early Times that they receive the science kits during the year 2018-19 & 2019-20 added that after checking they found the microscopes missing from these kits.
“We came to know about microscopes are the part of the science kits during training session when the official who imparted training to the school teachers with regard to how students could be interacted and to handle the instruments displayed the microscope and told us (We have provided microscopes with science kits have to seen it) to which many teachers replied that they don’t have it in the kits provided to them” said a teacher wishing anonymity. He said that on cross checking with others— they were surprise that the microscopes are missing from the kits added that they raised the alarm— but the officials at the helm of the affair prefer to remain silent.
Another person inform the “Early Times” that some of these science kits had been dumped in a private shop at Drabshalla and teachers of various schools are being forced to lift these kits which incharge teachers refused since the microscopes are also missing from these kits.
When Early Times brought the matter into the notice of Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, he seek a detail report from Chief Education Officer Kishtwar with regard to supply of these kits in entire District.
An official in CEO office Kishtwar told the “Early Times” that he handed over 19 science kits to various schools in Marwah Education Zone few months ago added that microscopes are the very much part of the science kits.
He further said that department will inquire the matter with serious approach.
Dr. Arun Manhas, State Project Director Samagra Siksha when contacted said that he had sought the details from the concern officials and assured that in case the allegations found to be true, the guilty officials will be taken to task.
It is pertinent to mention that Drabshalla Education Zone is the most backward area of the Union Territory of the Jammu and Kashmir and Government from time to time makes efforts to upgrade the Education standard in this area, but many scandals hit this zone in recent past.
The zone is presently without any ZEO and is being handle by I/C headmaster of the High School who is himself marred by many controversies that directly make the effect on the functioning of the department.
Moreover several employees posted in the zone had not be transferred since years and in case some were even transferred they never handed over the record to the subordinate who took over the charge and kept all the files with themselves which is a grass violation of the rules and regulations.
