Politics of Freebies Triumphed In Delhi
Omkar Dattatray2/13/2020 9:48:58 PM
It is politics of freebies that triumphed in Delhi and the head of such politics again bounced back to power a third time in succession and it is no mean development by any standard. Kejriwal the incumbent CM of Delhi promised to provide power, water and free travel to women in the metros of Delhi and such free politics lead to his victory in the Delhi assembly polls defeating the BJP which worked on the issues of national importance but at the end of the day AAP bounced back to power with a thumping majority. It has become clear now that the people of Delhi or anywhere else are not motivated by the national issues of security and dignity of the country but are more influenced by the local issues which matters more to them. Thus have the electorate of Delhi voted foe AAP to get their local issues solved. It is known to everybody that the people need basic issues of bear existence and need power, water and schooling and hospitals and AAP promised to provide these essentials to the people of Delhi and thus have the people voted for AAP In the toughest contest with BJP which used all its resources at its disposal to dislodge the AAP but could not be successful in their game of reaching to the throne of Delhi. In the midst of the electioneering the BJP and congress also realised the importance of the local issues and also promised more freebies to the voters of Delhi but their promises could not turn into votes for the BJP and congress and ultimately AAP triumphed due to its politics of freebies and the popular slogans. It is obvious that the people of Delhi where influenced by the policies of freebies and the developmental narratives of the Kejriwal and his free politics and his lollipops worked wonders and made his party successful at the end. The AAP maintained some sort of proximity with the Shaheen Bagh agitation and this paid dividends to the AAP. BJP opposed the CAA protests and took the issue of Shaheen Bagh to the central stage but it could not fetch votes to them. Thus the national narrative and national security could not translate into votes for the BJP but instead Opposition to Shaheen Bagh agitation boomeranged on BJP and the minorities of Delhi voted for AAP in these elections and taught a lesson to the BJP and showed that the minorities have the power of vote to fight any forces who are according to them work against the minorities. Earlier minorities voted for the congress in Delhi but now they vote for the AAP and this resulted into the triumph of the AAP in the assembly elections and the congress was decimated this time as the party failed to open its score in the Delhi elections and the party was also not earned even one seat in the last assembly elections and the congress should make some soul searching and introspection on the state of affairs of the party as the grand old party failed to even open a score in these elections. BJP which fought this election on the national issues if security and nationalism and also on the subject of amended the citizenship act has failed to attract voters instead it worked in the direction of the AAP as the Muslims of Delhi voted for AAP and taught BJP a lesson. Infact the local elections are fought on the basis of the local issues and the mundane issues of bread and butter and not on the grounds of national issues of country's security and nationalism and thus have the people of Delhi negated the policies and programs of the BJP. Even the promise of giving five times by the BJP than promised by the AAP could not have any effect on the voters. One more factor which went opposite to the BJP was that the party failed to project any candidate as the prospective CM candidate and this also badly affected the voters of Delhi and they voted for AAP this time also while the fact is the BJP campaigned in a big way in Delhi and even PM Modi and home minister Amit Shah and other star campaigner campaigned in favour of the BJP but could not help the national party to gain a foothold in Delhi and come victorious in the end. In fact the lotus could not bloom in Delhi but Instead the AAP came victorious in this Delhi election dangal.
