Jammu’s Border belts without Trauma centres, Critical Ambulances, expose Health Deptt

NITESH SANGRAL
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 16: The residents of the sensitive border areas of Jammu province have been living under constant threat as Pakistan frequently resorts to indiscriminate firing and mortar shelling but instead of providing complete facilities to them, Health Department Jammu is rubbing salt on their wounds by not providing much-required health services.
Here need to mention that Pakistan’s forces have made lives of border residents as hell by targeting residential areas which cause grave losses not only to humans but livestock but negligible or less efforts were made by the concerned authority to establish fully equipped Trauma Centres, provision of bullet proof ambulances and other required facilities for them.
Residents of the border belt told that the people who have been living along the Line of Control (LoC) as well as International Border (IB) needed such critical care facilities during the cross border firing. There are Health centres nearby them but they are not fully equipped due to which any injure person has to suffer and struggle to get treatment during crucial time.
“If critical care facilities are introduced by the health department then the chances are bound to increase in saving any injured person timely by providing all treatment under one roof. As any person, who receives serious injuries, needs bullet proof ambulances to shift them to hospital for treatment, “people stated.
They also said that sometimes the normal vehicles get trapped in the firing for hours, thus putting lives of injured in risk. The issue was brought into the notice of then Health Minster as well as senior officials of the health Department but pleas fall to deaf ears.
Besides, official sources told that the respective hospitals of the border areas have not enough facilities including Critical ambulances, in the villages near the International Border including Kathua, Samba, and other places in Jammu district, to meet any emergency.
A number of times, the aggressive relatives of those who had either killed or injured in the cross border firing, had accused Health department of providing poor facilities due to which they have to suffer a lot but nothing has been done reportedly.
When contacted Director, Health Services Jammu, Dr Renu Sharma could not be contacted.
