EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 16: The administration of Central University of Jammu (CUJ) is reportedly in deep slumber as the water-purifiers installed over the water coolers have been lying defunct for months together, thus supplying un-purified potable water to all in the varsity.
The students as well as faculty members of the varsity have been forced to drink non-purified water despite availability of the water-purifiers installed over the water coolers.
Sources informed Early Times that the water supply to the administrative wings as well as departments and faculty quarters was through a tube-well. For the convenience of the students and faculty members, water coolers fitted with purifiers, have been installed in various administrative units as well as the departments.
For proper filtration of the water, water-purifiers are required to be serviced after few months, but the water purifiers at the Central University of Jammu have not been serviced for many months, sources said, adding that some of the purifiers have totally become defunct.
“If a water purifier is functioning properly, then green signal blinks on the purifier and when the green signal stop blinking, when the purifier is on, it means it is not working”, sources said, adding that most of the water purifiers in CUJ have stopped functioning and some have not even displaying red-signal.
Sources further said that though the University administration has been cleaning up the water-coolers on regular mode and dates of cleaning have also been written over the water coolers, but the University administration has not paid any attention over the defunct water-purifiers for the last over many months.
The students as well as faculty members have appealed the Vice Chancellor to look into the matter and issue instructions to the respective quarters for early redressal as it relates to the health of students as well as faculty members.
