Commissioner JMC conducts tour of city

JAMMU, Feb 17: Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Avny Lavasa, IAS conducted extensive tour of city nallahs and deep drains falling within the limits of JMC.
The Commissioner, JMC was accompanied by field staff of Transport Wing of JMC. The tour has been conducted to take preventive measures with regard to de-silting of nallahs & deep drains in all the 75 wards of JMC. There are approx. 191 nallahs and 143 deep drains in entire JMC areas which need to be cleaned well before the onset of monsoon season so as to avoid any kind of overflow & flash flood during the ensuring monsoon season.
During the tour, Commissioner JMC also gave on spot directions to Chief Transport Officer, JMC to expedite the process of desilting storm water drainage and immediately put up a comprehensive proposal for carryingout desilting drive for cleaning of all the city nallahs and deep drains so that the people living in low lying areas of Jammu city should not face any problem during forthcoming monsoon season. Besides seasonal nallahs which are highly vulnerable, the Commissioner also visited low lying areas of Jammu region like Bhagwati Nagar, Talab Tillo, Kabir Colony, Durga Nagar, Nai Basti, Kunj Vihar lane sec. 04, Nanak Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, etc. where locals have to face lot of problem during monsoon season.
At many places Commissioner, JMC took serious note of waste thrown in open by locals & directed the concerned Sanitary Supervisor and Inspectors to book them under relevant clause of bye laws and issue challan / penalty against the defaulters.
The Commissioner, JMC appealed to the people at large to cooperate with JMC and help us to make Jammu clean & green. In order to ensure protection of nallahs from being misused by unauthorized dumping of waste & garbage by general public direction was also given to Chief Transport Officer, JMC to install wiremesh fencing on sides of seasonal nallah at vulnerable points and also request cooperation from general public not to throw garbage/wastes into nallahs and use dustbins for disposal of waste.
