Sports festival 2020 inaugurated

Jammu, Feb 18: The first sports festival 2020 of (Zone A) was inaugurated at GGM Science College Jammu today wherein 21 teams comprising 2000 students from various Degree Colleges of Jammu and Samba District participated.
In this festival, 16 events like Cricket (M/W), Football (M), Kho-Kho (M/W), Kabaddi (M), Badminton (M/W), Table Tennis (M/W), Volleyball (M/W), Hockey (M/W) and Tug of War (M/W) will be conducted in GGM Science College, SPMR College of Commerce, MAM College and GCW Gandhi Nagar. Talat Parvez Rohella, Secretary to Govt., Higher Education Department was the Chief Guest and Dr. Yaseer Shah, Director Colleges, Higher Education Department was the Guest of Honour for the inaugural ceremony.
The Nodal Principal, Dr. Ravinder Kumar Tickoo presented the welcome address. The Chief Guest Talat Parvez Rohella motivated the students by highlighting on the need to promote Sports for the overall development of the personality of an individual. He emphasised that physical fitness is very important along with academic activities and the motto of the Sports Festival 2020 is to channelize the energy of the students in the right direction inculcating in them the leadership quantities and discipline.
The Director Colleges, in his address, thanked the Chief Guest for taking personal interest in organising this Sports Festival at Divisional and State level and motivating the students to participate in the events.
The participants from 21 colleges participated in the March Past to the tunes of BSF Band followed by an Oath ceremony. An Exhibition Cricket Match was played between the two teams – Secretary Eleven Vs Director Eleven were Director Eleven won by ten runs. The chief Guest also inaugurated the Football match to be played between GDC Samba and Govt. MAM College, Jammu in which MAM College won the match by 4-0. After this, the participants went to their respective venues to participate in the various events to be conducted as per schedule.
The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. (Prof.), Koushal Smotra Principal GGM Science College. Dr. Vikas Dhar (Deputy Secretary, Higher Education Department), Mr. Sanjay Sharma, Principals from various Degree Colleges and Physical Directors - Dr. Vinod Bakshi ( GGM Science College), Mr. Malik Aijaz (SPMR College of Commerce), Dr. Mandeep Singh (GCOE), Dr. Roopali Slathia (GCW Gandhi Nagar), Mr. Ramandeep (GDC, Ramban), Mrs. Neelam (Asstt. Physical Director MAM College) and Mr. Pawan Giri (Asstt. Physical Director GGM Science College) were present on the occasion.
