Divisive Politics Defeated in Delhi
2/17/2020 11:30:25 PM

Omkar Dattatray

The people of Delhi have voted and voted wisely and humbled the BJP in the recently held assembly elections. They deserve all praise for voting wisely and constructively and defeating BJP. They voted for development and for fulfilling the mundane needs of the Dehli. The aggressive and narrow nationalism and politics of divide and rule of BJP has been totally negated by the shrewd voters of Delhi and they deserve all kudos for this. The BJP had used all means at its command for the sake of making a comeback in these elections but had to eat a humble pie as the people of Delhi have voted for the development agenda of the AAP and had given a drubbing to the BJP and its divisive politics. The aggressive nationalism and majoritarianism of the BJP could not get favour with the Delhi voters and they voted for the AAP and its model of development. The popular schemes and the free politics found favours with the voters as the people of Delhi voted for the political party which promised mundane things of daily existence. The disruptive and divisive politics of the saffron party failed to impress voters and this led to the virtual fall of the BJP. The BJP could win only 8 seats in the Delhi assembly elections when the APP won a thumping majority of 62 seats in the assembly elections. The pro-CAA and NCR and NRP narrative of the BJP could not give votes to the party. The narrow and disruptive politics and discourse of the BJP failed to attract voters and this was the reason that people voted for the APP and its promises. Now that the APP OF Kajrewal has won with a strong mandate the AAP government should work towards meeting and fulfilling the election promises and manifestoes of the party so that the people of Delhi could heave a sigh of relief .The non-existence of the anti incumbency of the APP helped the AAP to garner votes in good numbers. In fact it was the work done by the AAP government which translated in to the votes for the AAP. It is incumbent for the AAP to deliver on the promises made during the Electioneering and that would work to further cement the AAP and its politics. The BJP has got a severe drubbing at the hands of the Delhi voters as the voters had taught BJP a lesson for not working in the interest of the people. The emotional card played by the BJP could not find favours with the voters as the voters voted for the AAP and its policies and politic. The free politics of AAP worked and gave AAP a great victory tired time in succession. The narrow and emotional politics of BJP did not help the party any more. People of Delhi have shown that they need bread and butter and the daily necessaries of life and are least concerned with the emotive issues which are not linked with the lives of the people of Delhi. The BJP should look out why the party failed to gain votes despite PM Modi’s band of central ministers, mps, MLA’S, singers, film stars and others campaigning for the BJP and the defeat was no less than a shock for the BJP. It is the right time that the BJP should make self introspection and soul searching and find way it faced a worst drubbing at the hands of AAP despite all men and machinery at its disposal. The pro-incumbency worked wonders and gave a historical victory to the AAP. The people voted for the slogan of votes for work and thus had the voters voted for the AAP for its work done in the second term of the AAP. The AAP should put in its efforts and work in the direction of fulfilling the poll promises and poll manifestos because the people are the best judges to decide the fate of the rulers. And BJP should focus on its loopholes and weakness and do some remedial measures so that the mass base and the cadre of the party are augmented in future. It is a matter of satisfaction that Kejriwal has remarked that the Delhi government will work in co-operation with the union government and the CM got the blessings of Modi. In a federal setup there should be coordination between the centre and the state governments and the New Delhi model is a matter of satisfaction.
