SRINAGAR, Feb 17: The practice of BUMS doctors to prescribe allopathic medicine is taking heavy toll in the Kashmir valley and with the result the concerned department and administration is hardly bothered about the safety of patients, and the same type of situation was witnessed in SDH Kupwara of north Kashmir.
According to sources that, a Bachelor of Unani Medicine and Surgery (BUMS) doctor was seen prescribing an allopathic medicine at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Kupwara, after which patients registered a compliant with the concerned department.
“A BUMS doctor namely Faheem Ahmad has completed his BUMS degree and was doing an internship in Govt Sub District Hospital Kupwara, though his tenure as an internee has got completed in 2019, sources informed early Times.
Sources said that despite completing his internship in 2019, he is still serving at SDH Kupwara as a regular doctor in one of the critical section casualty/emergency section and prescribes English (Allopathic) medicine to the patients.
However when the matter was brought into the notice of the concerned hospital authority they have not uttered a word and failed to take any action whatsoever against the erring doctor, however they have acknowledged that his (Drs) internship has got expired in 2019 and he is illegally serving the gullible patients at SDH Kupwara, said sources.
Sources alleged that, there are some doctors who are supporting him in whatsoever manner, but there could be negative consequences of it in future.
A group of patients at SDH Kupwara said that, BUMS doctor is not supposed to prescribe allopathic medicine but still once they are out in open they do prescribe.
“Basically there is no control over drug prescriptions; irony is that the sales person over the counter of pharmacy becomes a drug prescriber with some experience and it has been seen that most of the times people escape without any consequence, said aggrieved patients.
However sources further said that, for God’s sake when something does go wrong then a situation arises where nothing in the world can save them or support them, and many times it has been seen that if a patient has any reaction which may end up in death also then neither will the patient listen to any explanation nor will the decision making body, adding but unfortunately legally it is allowed today by the so called authorities at the helm of affairs.
Meanwhile early Times brought up this matter before the Block Medical Officer (BMO Sub District Hospital Kupwara, Dr Zaffar, who said that, “yes the matter was brought up into my notice, and we have thrown him out and now he is not serving in SDH Kupwara.
There is nothing like that, but yes I assure you that if such reports came up in future about the said doctor, I will lodge an FIR against him, BMO Kupwara, Dr Zaffar added.
