Gender sensitization workshop organized at JU

Jammu, Feb 18: The Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu organized a Workshop today on 18th February, 2020 for scholars and students of the P.G. Department of Economics, University of Jammu on “Gender Sensitization”. Dr. Sunita Sharma faculty department of Economics welcomed the resource persons and participants for today’s program. Prof. Vishav Raksha Director, Centre for Women’s Studies, University of Jammu, introduced the theme of the Workshop and spoke about the objective to hold this Workshop which was to generate awareness about gender issues among the scholars and students. She further interacted with the participants on various aspects of gender equality and spoke at length about gender issues in our day to day life. She also undertook different brainstorming sessions comprising of various activities in which the students participated very enthusiastically. The second session was conducted by Dr Ellora Puri, Faculty from Department of Political Science who spoke about ‘Gender and Public spaces’ and also suggested various ways to eliminate the insecurity in such places. Other resource person for the workshop was Dr. Hema Gandotra, faculty member from Department of Sociology, who conducted a power point presentation on the ‘Third Gender and Understanding their Life’. Prof. Prakash Anthal, Head of the Department of Economics in the valedictory session expressed his views on gender equality and importance of sensitizing the youth today on this issue. The Certificates were also distributed among the participants. Among others present were Prof. Aroon Sharma, Dr.Manoj Bhat, Dr. Shallu Sehgal, Dr. Shakun Sharma and Dr. Priyanka Katoch. The vote of thanks was presented by Dr. Sunita Sharma.
