Meeting of Project Screening Committee under SFURTI held

JAMMU, Feb 19: A meeting of Project Screening Committee under the Scheme of Funds for Regeneration of Traditional Industries (SFURTI) was held under the Chairmanship of Commissioner Secretary to Government, Industries & Commerce Department in Civil Secretariat Jammu today. The objective of the SFURTI scheme is to make the traditional Industries more productive and competitive and to facilitate their sustainable development.
In the meeting four SFURTI clusters proposals involving project cost of Rs. 1193 lacs were cleared. These clusters include Kishtwari Blankets weaving cluster Doda, Carpets weaving clusters Baramulla and Bandipora and Sozni Clusters at Kupwara. More than 3000 artisans shall be covered under these clusters. J&K KVIB is a nodal agency for implementation of SFURTI programme for the UT of J&K. During the meeting Commissioner Secretary directed the nodal agency to explore the possibility of establishing Basholi paintings art, Bamboo works, Herbal and aromatic products cluster in Jammu region. He directed Secretary/CEO KVIB to explore the possibility of establishing at least one cluster in each district of the UT, so that the artisans and workers associated with the traditional and Village Industries arts are able to reinforce their income and to market their products.
The meeting was also attended by the Director Handloom, Handicrafts, Secretary/CEO KVIB, Director Planning and representative from NABARD, J&K Banks and other stake holders.
