Horticulture Department Kmr fails Kashmiri farmers
2/20/2020 11:59:12 PM

EARLY TIMES REPORT

SRINAGAR, Feb 20: An awareness camp organized by Horticulture Department Kashmir Wednesday witnessed unprecedented scenes when farmers from various parts took on officials for their failure in providing benefits to people. Horticulture Department Kashmir on Wednesday organized one day training cum awareness programme (Inauguration of urban rural plantation scheme under capex 2019- 2020) for the people inside the premises of directorate office at Rajbagh Srinagar. However, only few people had turned up to attend the camp.
“Directorate office did not make publicity among people about this camp. This was a failure without any positive response from the department. See Director is addressing just few people and most of them are officials from the department,” an official said.
The official said department provided plant saplings to people but that too were poor quality. “Under the scheme, Department had to provide better quality saplings. But they only give saplings with poor quality saplings and have been procured from blue eyed persons at higher rates,” the official claimed.
“Organizing camp was just a formality and won’t bear any positive results on the ground,” the official said.
During the camp, Director Horticulture Kashmir was also given earful by farmers. “Your department has failed farmers. You are not making proper publicity and awareness camps. This camp is just a photo session,” one of the farmers said.
Sensing trouble, Director Horticulture Kashmir also cut of his speech when he was telling people about the awareness camp. Following which, officials got busy in planting few saplings inside the premises and were recorded on the camera.
Farmers further said that Horticulture Department Kashmir has failed Kashmiris. “They only withdraw money from the exchequer on the pretext of organizing camps but have failed us. Such awareness camps serve no purpose as they are being held just as a formality,” said a farmer, who too had come to attend the camp.
