Another gift to Jammuites for supporting Union decisions
Slashing of college contractual lecturers’ salary likely to affect mostly Jammu based candidates
2/21/2020 12:01:41 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 20: The Jammu based contractual lecturers working in government degree colleges are likely to be affected most by the order government, slashing monthly remuneration of NET qualified college contractual lecturers from Rs 28000 to Rs 15000 and non-NET qualified lecturers from Rs. 22,000 to Rs. 12000.
Sources informed Early Times that though contractual lecturers have been engaged in both provinces of Jammu and Kashmir but the decision would badly impact the Jammu based contractual lecturers while majority from Kashmir valley would be spared.
“Over five hundred contractual lecturers working in various colleges of Kashmir division have already secured stay from the court over continuation of their services. These contractual lecturers didn’t participate in the re-engagement process initiated by the Higher Education department every year and have been spared from the competition from new comers as well as any change in the remuneration criteria.
Once the new criteria of salary would be implemented over the new engaged contractual lecturers the Kashmir based contractual lecturers, who have secured stay would not be affected financially. “The department would have to pay these contractual lecturers the same previous remuneration until the government would secure amendment in the stay order”, sources said.
Sources further disclosed that the state government has devised a policy of dividing the contractual lecturers by giving an assurance of regularization to those, who have been working for over 10 years in the department.
“A Committee has already been constituted to finalize the modalities for regularization of those engaged for the last 10 years. The committee had recently conducted a meeting in civil secretariat, which was also attended by representatives of School Education department, Technical Education, Higher Education and Medical Education department”, sources said, adding that what transpired in the meeting was yet to be known.
“By constituting a committee, government has made some old horses not to oppose vociferously the new remuneration criteria but the slashing of salary is another gift of Union government to whole heartedly support its decisions by the Jammuites”, a contractual lecturer said.
