3 day research methodology workshop concludes at JU

JAMMU, Feb 21: The valedictory function of a three day workshop on "Research methodology in History' organized by the Department of History, University of Jammu, was held today in the seminar hall of the Department of History, University of Jammu. Padamshree Shiv Nirmohi was the chief guest on the occasion. He narrated his own journey to research on the history of Jammu. He also explained how he kept on getting leads on research from various quarter of life and how even man on street has often induced him to explore new areas of history and culture of Jammu. While addressing the research scholar, he pointed out that the practice of armchair history writings would not be fruitful until it is combined with an extensive field work.
Earlier eight technical sessions were conducted in the last three day of the workshop in which resources persons from different university located outside Jammu were invited. Two of the technical session was engaged by Prof. Susmita Basu Majumdar, Dr. Danish Moin and Dr. Amit Upadhyaya. Prof. Susmita spoke about the intricacies of dealing with the Epigraphic sources. In these contexts, she cited example of the several Brahmi inscription which have the potential of yielding new information on the existing historical narrative. Dr. Danish also engaged two sessions Spoke and spoke on how to deal with the numismatic evidences of medieval period to construct economic, history of science, technology and metallurgy of medieval period.
