Sedition no freedom of speech
2/21/2020 10:41:35 PM
A young girl raising pro-Pakistan slogans at a political rally organized by Assadudin Owaisi led AIMIM rally at Bengaluru and his right hand man Waris Pathan threatening that fifteen crore could over power hundred crore are clear indications that a few people with vested interests are out to create a communal divide in the country.
People of India are asking themselves where our country is heading towards amid this hate mongering and why are these hate mongers being allowed to indulge in such activities? These people seem to have decided to polarize the environment to an extent that there could be no looking back. One can only pity their mindset and hope that better sense prevails.
The AIMIM leaders, including Owaisi, have been issuing highly provocative statements since the day the Parliament passed the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). Leaders like Owaisi are projecting CAA and National Population Register (NPR) as anti-Muslim and are trying to send a message that Muslims are all set to lose their citizenship. But the fact remains that CAA has got nothing to do with the Indian Muslims and NPR is meant for the entire country and not for any particular community.
Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, has assured the Muslims they need not to worry as the CAA is meant for providing citizenship and not for snatching anyone's citizenship rights. He has ruled out any possibility about National Register for Citizens (NRC) being created in the country. But people like Owaisi and his aides are telling the members of a particular community that they should intensify the protests rather than paying any heed to the assurances given by the top leaders, including the Prime Minister.
The Government of India seems to be watching the developments keenly and it appears that helmsmen may not take this nonsense anymore. One can expect a crackdown against the people who are vitiating the atmosphere in the country. Voices to punish the hate mongers like Waris Pathan are becoming shriller and questions are being raised about no action being taken against them.
It looks like that Owaisi has realized that he and his party could face the heat as he rushed back to the stage in Bengaluru to snatch the mike from the hand of the girl who was raising pro-Pak slogans. He expressed dismay over the incident but the AIMIM chief needs to realize that sedition is not part of the freedom of speech.
