Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 25: Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, has expressed dismay over dilapidated road, faulty drainage system and other problems being faced by the residents of mohalla Rayan in Raipur, Satwari area.
Munish, who would be contesting the forthcoming assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency, said, Residents of this particular area have been running from pillar to post to get their issues addressed but their pleas have fallen in deaf ears.
Munish urged the administration of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to address the issues of the residents forthwith. People need basic amenities to survive and they cannot be deprived of these. The government of the day needs to identify the issues which are haunting the people and take action to end their miseries, he added.
Meanwhile, residents of mohalla Rayan which falls under Gandhi Nagar constituency, while talking to Early Times said, We have been facing many civic problems in our area, which were never addressed by the concerned departments. The road leading to the mohalla, has never been blacktopped. The faulty drainage system has become headache for us as the filthy water in the drains finds no exit.
Rayan mohalla comprises over fifty houses. Denizens of this area alleged that the link road connecting their area with the main road has never been blacktopped due to apathetic attitude of concerned departments. “Around five years ago, the concrete work was done on road but it was abandoned midway due to unknown reasons, said Shubham Rayan and Romy Kumar.
They said that drainage system in the area is totally non functional and the water remains stagnant due to absence of its outlet point. The discharged water overflows in the road creating water- logging. Filthy water emanates foul smell. We have given number of representations to the concerned department as well as to the local representatives but nothing has been done till date. Many accidents have taken place in our area due to road being in dilapidated condition. The entire mohalla lies in low lying area from the main road, which is main cause of non discharge of the water from drains, said Anurag Tak, Vijay and Sonu.
They said that unattended garbage piled up across the area has become another nuisance for the locals as well as for the strangers, who visit in the mohalla. At times people burn the garbage dump, which creates air pollution and leads to health issues, they added.
