Of Rs 4.50 Cr project cost, ULB spends whopping Rs 1.34 Cr at initial stage

EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Feb 25: Urban Local Bodies (ULB) Department Rajouri has allegedly spent a huge amount of Rs 1.34 crore only at the initial stage of Terminal Building of New Bus Stand Rajouri, which is under construction, notwithstanding the fact that the total cost of the project is Rs 4.25 crore, which has raised finger on the department’s functioning.
Sources told Early Times that the estimated cost of the Terminal Building project was Rs 4.50 crore. The terminal design is comprised of three floors including hotel, two restaurants, ticket counters, police booth etc.
They further said that the department spent Rs 1.34 crore up to first floor and most of the expenditure was done in foundation work of the building which drew flak from local citizens. “It is very shocking that huge part of project cost was spent on foundation work, which is it still at initial stage. We have doubts that some embezzlements have been done by the executing agency. A thorough inquiry should be conducted to find out facts,” alleged Rahi Kapoor, Ketan and Kapil Sharma, the local residents.
They appealed to LG to intervene into the matter and urged him to direct the concerned department to conduct inquiry and erring officials should be penalised.
When JE ULB Rajouri was contacted, he didn’t respond to the queries put forth by this correspondent.
