Union Addl Secretary releases ‘Himayat Feature’

JAMMU, Feb 27: Additional Secretary, Union Ministry of Rural Development, Alka Upadhyaya today convened a meeting here to review the performance of project implementing agencies under Himayat and Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDUGKY).
Joint Secretary, Rural Skills Charanjit Singh and Secretary Rural Development Department & Panchayati Raj, Sheetal Nanda were also present on the occasion.
During the meeting with the project implementing agencies ‘Himayat Feature’ celebrating the success of the skill development programme was also released.
The ‘Himayat Feature’ covers the core activities and milestones achieved by Himayat programme, which has impacted the socio-economic indicators of Jammu and Kashmir so far, especially the lives of thousands of unemployed youth in the region.
It also celebrates the spirit of skill training and subsequent placement initiative undertaken by Himayat Mission Management Unit and showcases the expanse of the Himayat’s efforts towards mainstreaming Jammu & Kashmir’s youth through private sector employment. The Feature captures the lifestyle of youth before the Himayat training and their transformation phase after getting engaged in Himayat-DDUGKY training and subsequent placement.
Moreover, it highlights their point of transformation in a manner which brings out the impact that DDUGKY training has had on their lives.
Addressing the meeting, the Union Additional Secretary said Himayat programme is a perfect example of great synergy between the Government, training partners, job providing companies and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
She asserted that the programme has given new confidence to the youth in Jammu and Kashmir and shown them a way to success and appreciated the efforts put in by the concerned to develop market-driven skill development among the youth.
The Union Joint Secretary in his remarks expressed gratitude towards HMMU, JKSRLM for facilitating the meeting and urged the States to replicate the best practices executed by Himayat programme so far.
In her remarks, Sheetal Nanda impressed upon the Project Implementing Agencies to redouble their efforts in making the programme successful and asked them to focus upon the quality criteria while providing training cum placement to the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.
Chief Operating Officer, Himayat Mission Management Unit, Kapil Sharma briefed about the progress and performance of Himayat-DDUGKY programme in Jammu and Kashmir.
Himayat-DDUGKY is a part of the National Rural Livelihood Mission tasked with the dual objectives of adding diversity to the incomes of rural poor families and caters to the career aspirations of rural youth. However, in Jammu and Kashmir the scheme provides training and employment to both rural as well as urban youth.
