A Met department spokesperson told that heavy rain and snow would occur at isolated places while widespread light to moderate rain and thundershowers would occur during the next 48 hours in most places in the valley under the influence of a Western Disturbance (WD), which is active in the region.
There was possibility of thundershowers or hail story and gushing winds with a speed of 30-40 km per hour at few places of Kashmir during these three days, he said.
He further said farmers were advised to suspend Agricultural operations and drain out excess water from fields or orchards during the next couple of days.
After witnessing incessant rain on Thursday, people woke up to a chilly and cloudy Friday morning in Srinagar, following by intermittent rain.
The weather remained cloudy throughout the day, resulting in further dip in the maximum temperature, which settled several degrees below normal.
The Met spokesperson told that light to moderate rain or snow would occur during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures would be around seven degrees and 2 degree, respectively.
Ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, received intermittent snow since overnight, though the night temperature improved due to cloudy skies.
Kongdori and Apharwat, the highest point of the cable car project in Gulmarg, also received light to moderate snowfall overnight. Against minus 3.5 degrees recorded on Thursday, the night temperature in the ski resort was minus 2.5 degrees.
About 830 players from different parts of the country were scheduled to participate in 30 events of the first ever Khelo India-winter games being held from Saturday at Gulmarg, where the ski slopes were covered under several feet of snow.
