Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 25: For the first time in history of India as well as Jammu and Kashmir Navratra functions have remained a low key affair.
In the history of holy Shrine Mata Vaishno Devi this will be the first Navratra when devotees have been restricted from visiting holy shrine on the occasion of mine day long festival begining from first Navratra today. The celebrations are missing this time at holy cave except symbolic function on the day of Navratra. The usual hustle and bustle is missing at cave shrine and there is no decoration like past due to the Corona Virus threat and 21 day long country wide lock down announced by Prime Minister of India to fight the dreaded virus and for safety of people.
The normal Aarti is being held at holy cave by shrine board officials and hawan will also be performed but there will be no devotees. The usual husstle and bustle is missing along Trikuta hills as there are no queues of devotees either at Niharika bhawan, Ban Ganga, Adhkunwari or holy cave this time.
The authorities said that hawan will be performed to continue the tradition but no other functions will be performed. It is for the first time that Dr Vishhwa Murthi Shastri a well known scholar of Jammu who used to remain present at holy cave and give religious discourses during the Navratras could not attend the function this time. Likewise with closure of other shrines of Godess Durga including Shrine of Bawe Wali Mata at Jammu, Chechi Mata at Samba, Sukhraka Mata at Bullawar and other shrines in Kathua district no devotee could visit there during this Navratra and hustle bustle will be missing there. Lakhs of devotees from different parts of Jammu and other states used to visit these shrines in the Navratras.
Moreover Navreh being another main function of Kashmiri Oandits after Maha Shivratri will also miss getogethers and community functions this time. Navreh begining of new Vikrimi Samvat called new year by Hindus is being celebrated with great pomp and show by Kashmiri Pandits. But this time the people have to stay indoors and there will be no community gettogethers as was past practice. All KO organisations have already announced cancellation of all social and religious functions to be held in connection of Navreh and Navdurga celebrations.
