Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Mar 25: As four more persons of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district today tested positive for the Corona Virus the number of people affected by this disease in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir has reached 11.
Since the lady of Nowpora-Khayam who tested positive for Corona Virus on March 18 has recovered, the number of active cases of Corona Virus in the union territory is 10. Although, there were reports that two patients of Corona Virus putting up in the Jammu division have recovered the same has not been confirmed at the official level as yet.
In the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir the Kashmir division accounts for seven such patients while as the number of such patients in the Jammu division is three. In the Kashmir valley five patients are from the Bandipora district with the other two hailing from the Srinagar district.
Spokesman for Jammu & Kashmir government Rohit Kansal said that four persons from the Bandipora district have tested positive for Corona Virus. In a tweet, Kansal said that these persons were in close contact of Srinagar resident who tested positive for Corona Virus on Tuesday.
“4 more persons, all from Bandipora, tested positive today. Preliminary findings suggest they were close contacts of Srinagar patient who tested positive yesterday. All 5 reported to have participated together in a religious event,” Kansal wrote on his twitter handle.
It would be in place to mention here that the person referred to by Kansal is a resident of Shah Anwar Colony in Hyderpora. He visited places like Delhi, Nizam-ud-din Dargah in Delhi, Deoband in Uttar Pradesh, Samba in Jammu division and Sopore in Baramulla district before being admitted to Chest Diseases Hospital, Drugjan-Dalgate after being suspected to be a Corona Virus patient.
Since the patient was part of a religious group that visited different Masjids and Dargahs in the country over the past three weeks or so, one cannot rule out the possibility of many people getting in contact with them and then getting affected by the Corona Virus. As such there is a possibility that many more Corona Virus patients may come up in the various areas of the country.
In the meantime, the government through the media bulletin today informed that 5,124 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance and so far, 11 cases tested positive (10 active positive and 01 recovered) in Jammu and Kashmir. It said that 3,061 persons have been kept under home quarantine while as 80 are in hospital quarantine.
Persons who are under home surveillance stand at 1477 while as 506 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period. The bulletin further said that 326 samples have been sent for testing of which 294 tested as negative while as 21 reports are awaited till March 25, 2020.
On the implementation of Social Distancing measures, the advisory issued by the government said that it is the key to stop and prevent the spread of Covid-19 from those who are infected to those who are not infected. The intervention includes remaining out of crowded settings, avoiding mass gatherings, and maintaining distance (approximately 6 feet or 2 meters) from others.
