BDC chairman arrested for allegedly abusing policemen

Handwara, Mar 28: The Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a Block Development Chairman (BDC) of Vilgam, Handwara for allegedly abusing and manhandling policeman who were maintaining law and order situation following Coronavirus outbreak. As per the reports available, several other members of BDC’s have staged protest from past outside the police station demanding the release of the Block Development Chairman of Vilgam Handwara.
Sharing a detail, a police spokesperson said, “Jammu and Kashmir police were there on the ground to maintain law and order situation. During one incident a Block Development Chairman of Chaigam Vilgam abused the policemen who were there on the duty”. He added, BDC Vilgam of Handwars town, Muhammad Yasin Sheikh has violated Jammu and Kashmir Government orders and was roaming freely while at Dolipora, he has manhandled a policeman who asked him to stay indoors.
As there were restrictions on the road following the 21 days lockdown over Coronavirus outbreak.
As per the reports the detained BDC who is affiliated with Sajad Lone led Peoples Conference. Meanwhile, several BDCs are up in arms against police, mulling to stage a protest outside DDC office Kupwara against what they call arbitrary arrest.
Sources also said that after his arrest, BDC Chairman Langate threatened that as a mark of protest the other BDC chairpersons may resign stating police action to detain BDC Chairman as humiliation of one and all BDCs.
A senior police official said that a formal FIR vide number 17/2020 under section 188, 353, 506 has been registered against the BDC Chairman Vilagam.
He added that the said person abused and manhandled a policeman on duty.
