Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 29: The sudden rise in number of positive cases in the COVID-19 cases in Kashmir is likely to defer the tradition of annual Durbar move by the end of this April.
According to sources, breakout of COVID-19 and countrywide lockdown may break the tradition of annual durbar move this year in the month of April, as Kashmir has been hit by the outbreak of this deadly disease.
Though, the government is satisfied with the extraordinary efforts being made by the district administration Srinagar, the summer capital city of J&K, but the J&K LG administration is not willing to compromise the protocol and WHO’s guidelines.
“Undoubtedly, the district administration of Srinagar headed by the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary and his team so far has done commendable job”, said a senior officer, adding that non-serious on part of individuals who kept their travel history secret or have close contact with infected persons are deteriorating the measure taken by the J&K Administration.
As per the established practice, the annual Durbar winds-up last week of April at Jammu and reopens in Kashmir on second week of May every year. “This year, the ongoing countrywide lockdown, which is likely extend beyond April 14 as scheduled, with rise in number of positive cases moving of Durbar looks difficult,” he added.
“If the annual Durbar moves as per scheduled and past practice it will certainly risk lives of thousands of staff members deployed with move offices”, the officer said and added that the lockdown has already halted the routine functioning of departments in Jammu and the scheduled work still needs to be done. “Many of the public issues are still unresolved in Jammu division which were to be tackled by the secretariat in its stipulated time period”, he said and added that if Durbar moves for another six months in April, the public in Jammu division will have to wait for another six months which will ultimately pile up the work.
