Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Mar 30: In brazen violation of norms, the SK Institute of Medical Sciences Soura is operating as a Covid hospital though the Jammu and Kashmir government has not kept it in the list of such hospitals to offer treatment against coronavirus.
Officials said the SKIMS Soura is not only running Covid hospital but that the hospital authorities have issued formal orders in this regard defying the instructions of Union Health Ministry and the Jammu and Kashmir governments in this regard.
Official documents as accessed by the Early Times show that the Medical Superintendent has issued formal orders in this regard. "In continuation to preparations for COVID-I9 the wards have been clubbed in one ward in each floor as already circulated. Now the distribution of beds in these wards would be as follows
… Moreover, supplies in these areas would be provided by Store Keeper of the occupied ward only whereas Storekeepers of the vacant wards will remain standby in their wards only," reads the copy of the order issued by Professor Farooq A Jan Medical Superintendent, SKIMS.
The decision taken in violation of the government order has drawn strict resentment from the hospital doctors and paramedics, who said that the said decision will allegedly "infect the entire hospital."
"This hospital was not kept as the one for covid so that any emergency patient especially those undergoing treatment for cancer are not made vulnerable to coronavirus. But his way everyone visiting SKIMS Soura will be vulnerable," said a delegation of doctors and paramedics.
Sources said the doctors and paramedics are sending a complaint in this regard to the Prime Minister's Office as also to Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan apart from Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu.
"We cannot let the hospital be unduly infected for the sake of some alleged deal for procurement of costly equipment… Being responsible Indian citizens, we'll definitely inform the Modi government," said the delegation, on the condition of anonymity.
When contacted the hospital authorities admitted that the SKIMS Soura was being used a covid hospital. "But this is being done in the interest of the administration," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
