Search operation launched against hiding militants
Encounter breaks out along LoC in Kupwara

KUPWARA, Apr 1: A gunfight broke out between militants and army in woods along the Line of Control (LoC) in this north Kashmir district on Wednesday.
A top police official said that, on a specific intelligence, there were reports of some militants hiding in the Jamagund area, after which the whole area was cordoned off.
Soldiers manning the fence near Teen Behak in the Jumgund area of the Line of Control (LoC) at around 1:00 p.m. intercepted the movement of a group of militants believed to be 5 to 6 in number, the police official said.
He said that, a joint team of security forces including of Army, police, SOG, and CRPF have cordoned off the area to combat with the militants in the woods of Jamagund of this frontier district of north Kashmir.
A top level army official stationed in the Kupwara district told early times that, it is believed that the militants have infiltrated to this side of LoC in this district.
While trying to infiltrate in this side were challenged by the army, triggering off a brief exchange of gunfire and additional reinforces was called in to push them back to the other side of LoC, the official informed.
When asked about the number of militants that may have infiltrated, the official said that, it cannot be ruled out how many militants have entered to this side of LoC, but it could be a group of 4-5 militants, but we will not let them to enter in our area, as all entry and exit points have been sealed, the official added.
However a police official further said that, additional reinforcement of the forces was rushed to the spot. They said due to inclement weather the operation may get prolonged even as all the exit points have been sealed.
However the operation was in progress till the last reports came in from the Kupwara district.
