Covid-19: Kashmiris unwilling to break chain, hiding details
4/4/2020 12:18:56 AM

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 3: Even as the world is struggling to get rid of coronavirus, some of the people in Kashmir are unwilling to work in way that prevents spread of the deadly virus.
Officials said hundreds of people in Kashmir are unwilling to share their details about travel history or if having come in contact with those infected with the deadly virus.
Sources said the last few days police had to accompany medical department teams as those under surveillance were unwilling to share truth or to cooperate with the concerned authorities.
District Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Chowdhary on social media said: “The officials in Kashmir have often been speaking about this. In view of many CoVID-19 positive cases in #Srinagar “Contact Tracing” holds the key to avoid furher spread. Surveillance teams complain reluctance in some cases. Pl be truthful, cooperative and responsible.Easy & quick for all of us. Let’s not complicate anymore. #BreakThe Chain.”
Sources said the non-cooperation of the people has come as a major hindrance in the efforts to check spread of the ailment in Kashmir where some deaths have already taken place.
A resident of Batamaloo said his neighbors have returned home from outside state from areas that have witnessed surge in cases of coronavirus but such people have been hiding their travel history. “They are even lying before the neighbors what to tell to the government can only be imagined. Such people are risking lives of one and all,” said the Batamaloo resident. It is pertinent to mention that social media accounts of Kashmiri people are flooded with such complaints about “liars” while some of the concerned have been making appeals that nobody should hide such details.
When contacted a senior official confirmed about the problem and appealed the people to cooperate with the government in fight against coronavirus.
