JMC intensifies sanitation drive

JAMMU, Apr 4: In view of emerging situation due to the outbreak of Corona Virus (COVID-19), Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has ramped up its daily sanitization drives in the city besides ensuring that regular day to day mandate of the Corporation is fulfilled.
This was stated by Commissioner, JMC Avny Lavasa today, while detailing on the daily activities being undertaken in the city to deal with Coronavirus outbreak.
Stressing that Sanitation Workers are the front line of battle against Covid-19, Lavasa stated that while most of the population is indoors amid lockdown to break the chain of Corona virus transmission, JMC’s sanitation staff including garbage collectors, sweepers and others have been working round the clock to keep the city clean for ensuring a healthy environment for the people.
“To ensure safety of these workers, gloves, sanitzers and masks have been provided to all and they are being trained on how to perform their duties safely. Besides, Insurance by Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has also been done”, she added.

y activities, city sanitization efforts have also been enhanced to include fumigation/thermal fogging, spraying to disinfect public places, clearing of old garbage dumps, de-silting, among others.
For this, Fogging Machines, Spraying Pumps, Vehicle Mounted Spray Machines, Fire hydrants and Water Tankers along with staff are being regularly deployed in the city to spray disinfectants, especially in Red Zones, Quarantine centers, Hospitals, Mandis, other public places to combat and contain further spread of COVID-19.
She informed that to intensify the sanitation drive and avoid spread of the dreaded Virus JMC is deploying more machinery with an aim to cover all areas falling within the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation.
Additionally, regular ration distribution is also being carried out in slum areas of the city. Till date, essential rations including Rice, Atta, Dal, Onions, Oil, Salt, Sugar etc have been distributed among over 1000 households, benefiting about 15000 souls throughout the city, she further informed.
Assuring the people all support in this hour of grief, Commissioner said that Jammu Municipal Corporation is regularly working on ground to break the chain of Corona Virus transmission.
