Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 4: The SKIMS Medical College Hospital at Bemina has come under scanner for alleged negligence that led to death of a coronavirus patient and the spread of the deadly disease in Jammu and Kashmir as the government has ordered a formal probe into the matter.
Official documents as accessed by the Early Times reveal that the man from Hyderpora who passed away on March 25 at the Chest Disease Hospital in Srinagar had allegedly been a victim of the medical negligence at the hospital at Bemina where he had gone for consultation but was “taken lightly.” While the people of Kashmir had been blaming the man for having hidden his travel history and for the spread of the virus, the official documents as accessed by the Early Times reveal a different story as the government has ordered a probe.
Official documents reveal that Bemina hospital had not even bothered to inform police, about such a suspect case having come for consultation.
“The report further reveals that knowing the travel history of the patient and observing the symptoms of the patient, the Hospital Administration has not brought it Into the notice of Divisional/District/Police authorities when he left the hospital without getting admitted; Whereas; the patient has been given ample time to spread the virus by intermingling with the public and relatives,” the government order said.
The government has observed that the hospital made the patient spread the deadly ailment. “Whereas; the negligence at the hands of Hospital Administration has resulted in a lot of confusion and vulnerability amongst masses,” the inquiry order said.
It is pertinent to mention one of the doctors who enjoy a key post at the Bemina hospital has allegedly tainted past and was time and again spared by previous regimes.
In 2016, the said doctor was accused of having resorted to alleged misuse of official position to appoint his wife for a government job at the same hospital.
Sources said that time the then dispensation had allegedly come to his rescue given his political contacts.
Sources said the said medico has been trying that no action is initiated against him.
When contacted a senior official said no indiscipline would be tolerated.
