Five militants killed, five army men martyred near LoC in Keran sector

KUPWARA, Apr 5: Five militants were killed and five army men martyred today in a long gun battle that was in progress from last four days near the Line of Control in Keran sector of this north Kashmir district.
A top army official said that, it killed 5 militants today near the Line of Control (LoC) in Keran Sector of this north Kashmir district.
On April 1, there was specific information about the presence of militants that have sneaked into this side of LoC in Rangdori Behak Zurhama area of Kupwara.
There was an exchange of fire from both the sides, but due to inclement weather the operation was suspended, adding quickly infiltrators had fled away and were hiding in the dense woods, while as our jawans had tried to push them back to the other side of LoC, however the operation was in progress till today, the army official said.
He said in this operation, one soldier has died while two others are critically injured. Evacuation of the injured is hampered due to heavy snow and rough terrain conditions.
The army official said that, from past couple of days, Army was searching for them and on Sunday morning, 8 Jat regiment established a contact with them and during the encounter 5 militants were killed, adding one of the soldiers was also killed while two other soldiers were critically wounded and shifted to Srinagar base 92 Base Army Hospital.
Choppers were also pressed into service to track these militants at Rangdori Behak Kupwara. While as militants killed in Keran sector were trying to infiltrate from across the Line of Control (LoC), the army official said.
When asked about the identification of militants, the official said that, yet we cannot reveal their identification, it will take time and we will let you know accordingly.
However Srinagar based Defense Spokesperson; Col Rajesh Kalia said that, despite prevailing inclement weather they were unable to evacuate the bodies of slain soldiers, but now those bodies have been evacuated.
He said two more soldiers who were injured succumbed to their injuries and the total number of slain soldiers stands now at 3. Total five militants and 3 soldiers were killed in this operation which is still under progress, said Kalia.
Meanwhile Army said that 9 militants were killed by Indian Army in last 24 hours in Kashmir Valley. While as 4 militants were killed yesterday in Batpura in South Kashmir, 5 other militants were eliminated along LoC in Keran sector.
