Ameliorate problems faced by Gadigarh residents: Munish tells admin
Inhabitants deprived of basic civic amenities cry for help
4/8/2020 10:05:10 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Apr 8: Voicing his concern over the lack of basic facilities in Gadigarh, the Editor-in-Chief Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Wednesday, said that the development that has been happening around in Jammu city seems to be making no sense to the people living in an area which is in close proximity to Jammu Airport.
Munish, who would be contesting the next Assembly elections from Gandhi Nagar constituency said, “How would the claims of development and progress make any sense, when the locals of Gadigarh are forced to live in miserable conditions, devoid of basic facilities. Almost the entire locality is in complete mess as it is facing a constant neglect at the hands of the authorities.”
He said that a colony located near an Airport acts as a face of the city and should have been developed on modern lines but unfortunately Gadigarh is still bereft of elementary necessities adding that the locality is subjected to step-motherly treatment so far by the authorities for the reasons best known to them.
Urging the administration to act promptly in redressing the grievances of the inhabitants of Gadigarh, Munish said, “Remove the hurdles if any and try to ameliorate the problems being faced by the local residents. Come up with the viable solutions in order to make the life of people living here more comfortable.”
Meanwhile, local residents of Gadigrah, opposite Karan Bagh area near Jammu Airport, while talking to Early Times said, “The condition of roads in our locality is so bad that at times it becomes difficult to drive. Pot-holed and uneven road stretches may lead to fatal road accidents any time due to bumpy rides.”
“Even a brief spell of rain leads to water-logging, thanks to lack of maintenance of the roads. Roads have really become a source of nuisance for residents. While other things can wait for some more time but repair and maintenance of roads is a top most priority for the residents,” they added.
The residents further said that they have been apprising the officials concerned about the problems arising out due to bad condition of roads and constant water-logging in certain areas of the locality, but to no avail.
“The officials are not at all sympathetic towards our difficulties as our repeated requests made to them have fallen on deaf ears. Now, we hope to get our concerns addressed with media support,” they said.
Lack of basic amenities in Gadigarh, an area on the outskirts of Jammu city, has literally made the lives of people hell. Though the people here are dwelling for the last so many years, they have not been provided with basic civic amenities which are more than a necessity in one way or the other in day to day life of any household.
However, the endless wait of the residents of the locality for some visible improvement of basic civic amenities continue as the concerned authorities do not bother to give a considerate view to provide such necessities to them.
“Our locality is languishing due to lack of facilities for which the residents of the area are literally crying for attention of the authorities. Not only roads that are in a bad condition, the sewerage system is also not up to the mark as even minor rain leads to water-logging and overflowing drains,” said the inhabitants of Gadigarh.
“Most probably, ours is the only locality in the city where the residents are living in such wretched conditions thanks mainly due to the official apathy. Except for drinking water and electricity, other amenities like smooth lanes, proper sanitation and drainage system are rare entities for us,” they added.
The residents demanded that administration should initiate asphalting of lanes as well as by-lanes and ensure hygienic conditions with a proper drainage system in the area.
“We seek development of our area on modern lines with provision of improved infrastructure so that we may heave a sigh of relief from the mess we are living in,” the residents said.
