SMC employees, councilors lock horns amid COVID-19 crisis
4/8/2020 10:41:34 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 8: The rift between the corporators of Srinagar Municipal Corporation and the officials amid the COVID-19 outbreak can lead to the major crisis in Srinagar city.
Speculations are rife that the SMC Mayor and the corporators are trying to disturb the functioning of the corporation and are placing unnecessary hurdles in its routine.
Such claims got substantiated recently after the SMC Commissioner Gazanfar Ali said, “There is lack of coordination between corporators and the officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation. I am trying to strengthen their synergy. Officials and corporators have different roles. Corporators can raise demands of people and officials have to try to fulfill their demands.
"Meanwhile, as per the sources, the tussle between the councilors and officials at SMC is affecting the normal functioning of the corporation to the core. “These corporators are trying to hijack the entire corporation and turn it into a political battlefield. This is the government institution guided by the rules and regulations. It is unfortunate that corporation has come to such a pass,” sources divulged.
It was informed further that as a result of the tussle, the core issues confronting the Srinagar city are getting ignored in entirety with sanitation of the summer capital amid COVID-19 becoming victim of politicization.
