SRINAGAR, Apr 9: With 26 more persons testing positive for Corona Virus in the past 24 hours or so in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir, the number of positive cases of COVID-19 in the union territory today reached 184.
At the same time a woman from Udhampur in Jammu division passed away on Wednesday night after she tested positive for the Corona Virus. The fresh cases were reported from the different districts of Jammu & Kashmir with more than 90 percent being reported from the Kashmir valley.
Reports said that out of the 26 fresh cases maximum number of 12 cases came to the fore from North Kashmir's Bandipora district. Baramulla reported eight fresh cases with Jammu reporting two cases. Srinagar, Budgam, Kulgam and Kupwara districts each reported one fresh case of Corona Virus in the past 24 hours or so.
Spokesman for the Jammu & Kashmir government Rohit Kansal tweeted this afternoon, "24 more positive in Kashmir. Total 184. 32 in Jammu, 152 in Kashmir. All are contacts. A result of aggressive testing."
Late on Wednesday night Kansal tweeted, "61yrs old female patient from Udhampur passed away at GMC Jammu; tested positive for Corona; reported to be suffering from Arthritis and bedridden. Contacts being traced." This is the fourth death of COVID-19 in Jammu & Kashmir.
The Jammu & Kashmir government through the media bulletin informed that till date 184 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 out of which 174 are active positive, six have recovered and four have died. It said that out of 184 positive cases, 152 are from Kashmir and 32 from Jammu division.
"Furthermore, till date 43,798 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been put under surveillance which includes 8,157 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 478 in Hospital Quarantine, 174 in hospital isolation and 25,975 under home surveillance," said the bulletin.
The bulletin said that besides, 9,010 persons have completed their 28-day surveillance period. The bulletin said that till date test report of 2,649 samples has been received out of which 2,465 are negative and 184 as positive.
The bulletin urged the general public to stay indoors, strictly implement social distancing measures, disclose recent travel history to COVID-19 affected countries and report any contact with positive cases voluntarily. It stressed on people to take care of their bodies during home stay by ensuring to stay hydrated, eating balanced diet and resting well.
"People are reiterated to use Aarogya Setu mobile application developed by Government of India that uses Bluetooth and GPS to inform you when you might possibly be at risk of exposure. The users of the app are empowered with better information on the potential risk of infection, self- assessment tools and contextual advice. The app can be downloaded for Android on Google Play and IOS on Apple App Store," said the bulletin.
The bulletin asked the public to avoid unnecessary visit to hospitals, in case anyone develops fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, seek medical advice promptly. People should call on Covid-19 helpline numbers so that they can be provided correct medical advice and directed to the right health facility, if needed.
Meanwhile, 39 more persons who were shifted into administrative quarantine in Srinagar two weeks ago were discharged today after successfully completing their 14-day quarantine period. Except one all these persons belonged to Srinagar district. Upon being discharged all these persons were ferried home in transportation the administration had arranged for their convenience.
