BARAMULLA, May 4: Three jawans of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) martyred in Qaziabad area of Handwara on Monday late evening. While as 8 security men including 4 Army personnel, one Police officer and three CRPF were martyred in last two days in Handwara of north Kashmir.
Reports said that three paramilitary troopers were among four persons martyred in a brief shootout at Wangam area of Qaziabad Handwara in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Monday.
It is learnt that the militants attacked 92 bn CRPF (A Coy) party at Wangam at around 5:32 pm, in the attack, two CRPF men were martyred on the spot while two others suffered injuries in the shootout.
Both the injured were shifted to hospital where one among them succumbed on the way said reports. They said that the paramilitary troopers retaliated and the exchange of fire continued for around five minutes.
As the guns fell silent, one more body was spotted near the shootout site and investigations have been launched to ascertain whether the body is that of a civilian or someone else, they said.
An official said that militants attacked the CRPF party at Wangam and soon after the attack, additional reinforcement of army; SOG and CRPF rushed to the spot and launched a massive search operation to trace out the fleeing militants.
The 3 CRPF men that were martyred in a brief shootout were identified as No. 060112863 Ct Santosh Mishra, No. 145035132 Ct Chandra Shekhar and No. 075022382 Ct Ashwani Kr Yadav.
However sources said that the paramilitary troopers retaliated and exchange of fire continued for some time, and soon after this one more body was spotted near the shootout site, though immediately it was known whether the body is that of a civilian or troopers.
Sources said that, a civilian was killed who was identified as Omar Bhat s/o Mohammad Shafi r/o Khaipora Qaziabad, investigations have been started and a case has been registered with related to militant attack.
Within less than two days, there was heavy loss to the security forces, in Chanjimulla Handwara, 5 jawans were martyred and today, 3 CRPF personnel were martyred in militant attack.
The case has been registered in police station, and the investigation to the whole incident has been started, sources informed.
It is pertinent to mention here that on May 3, four Army personnel, including the commanding officer of 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) were killed in an encounter with militants in Handwara, while as a Sub Inspector of polices SOG wing was also killed in the encounter.
