PDP showing its true colours
5/14/2020 11:33:58 PM
Nationalist people who from day one were saying that Peoples Democratic Party is an extension of separatist groups like Hurriyat stand vindicated post August 5, 2019, when Centre announced its decision to reorganize the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir.
PDP chief and former J&K Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti, who has been serving detention since then has shown her true colours by remaining adamant on her stand to flog a dead horse. Her twitter handle which is being run by her daughter Iltija Mufti, is an ample proof of the fact that she and her party had nothing to do with the national interests. And her party’s ideology revolved around separatists and Pakistan. Since the day she has been shifted to her Gupkar residence in Srinagar and her PSA detention has been extended her party leaders, who were not arrested have been issuing anti-national statements and are demanding the release of separatists and other elements inimical to peace. One fails to understand why the government has turned a blind eye towards these second rung PDP leaders, who are issuing such seditious statements. Why these leaders have not been booked.
The PDP which shared power with BJP in Jammu and Kashmir for more than three and a half years is at crossroads as most of the leaders have left the party. The only ones who are left are either close relatives of the PDP chief or the ones who have nowhere to go. The PDP chief knows it very well that no one in New Delhi is going to listen to her. And she has been left without a constituency and her aides, who used to stand by her. One shouldn’t be surprised if PDP decides to leave the mainstream camp and joins the separatists. When the PDP was in power it pursued the agenda of separatists and gave them a freehand to radicalize the Kashmiri youth. The new phase of militancy in Kashmir erupted due to the wrong policies which were followed by the PDP. The party enjoyed the support of banned Jamaat-e-Islami is known to all. In order to appease the separatists Mehbooba as Chief Minister granted general amnesty to hundreds of stone-pelters in the Valley. The Jamaat workers were provided government jobs. Mehbooba as Chief Minister compelled New Delhi to announce unilateral ceasefire in Kashmir in 2018.
Today PDP is emerging as a new separatist outfit which may replace Hurriyat in coming days.
