KVK-Leh interacts with farmers through zoom

JAMMU, May 22: Krishi Vigyan Kendra-Leh organized an online interaction with farming community of Leh through zoom app. Dr. D. Namgyal, Head KVK-Leh while speaking on the importance of such online interactions told that in the times of COVID-19 pandemic, when the stage is set for a new normal which has necessitated measures like social distancing, online meeting tools like ‘Zoom’ are very effective.
Dr. Parveen Kumar, Subject Matter Specialist (Ag. Extension) KVK-Leh interacted with farmers on a wide range of issues including the situation arising out of pandemic in the region, the status of vegetable sowing and transplanting, availability of seed and other inputs for sowing of wheat and barley, Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI), vermi compost, various entrepreneurship development programmes for the youths, cultivation of medicinal plants and insect/pest problems in some villages.
Tashi Tokhmet, Deputy Director, Ladakh Environment and Health Organization (LEHO) a leading NGO of the region also was a part of the meeting. He also briefed about the various activities being undertaken by their NGO for sustainable development of the region. LEHO presently has taken up the plantation of medicinal plant ‘Enula’ in different villages of the district. Skalzang Dorjey of ‘Ladakh Organic Store’ informed that very soon ‘Nano’ organic products will be available in his store. These ‘Nano’ organic products will completely reduce the dependence on chemical inputs ultimately paving the way for making Ladakh totally organic by 2025 as set in the mission MODI.
Sonam Angchuk Programme Assistant of the KVK-Leh also shared his experiences of vegetable raising in his farm.
