SRINAGAR, May 22: For a change no Covid-19 related death was reported in the union territory of Jammu & Kashmir today even though 40 fresh cases of novel Corona Virus came to the fore from different districts of the union territory.
With today’s fresh cases the number of positive cases in Jammu & Kashmir reached 1489. Since 720 Corona Virus patients have recovered and 20 others have died the number of active cases in the union territory are 749.
Reports said that 18 fresh cases were reported from Shopian in South Kashmir followed by Samba four cases, Baramulla and Kupwara three cases each, Srinagar, Rajouri, Pulwama and Anantnag two cases each, Bandipora, Poonch, Budgam and Kulgam one case each.
The Jammu & Kashmir through the media bulletin informed that 40 new positive cases of novel Corona Virus (COVID-19), seven from Jammu division and 33 from Kashmir division, have been reported today thus taking the total number of positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir to 1489.
Out of 1489 positive cases, 749 are active positive, 720 have recovered and 20 have died; two in Jammu division and 18 in Kashmir division. Moreover, 36 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and discharged from various hospitals, one from Jammu division and 35 from Kashmir division. The bulletin said that out of 1, 14,859 test results available, 1, 13,370 samples have been tested as negative till May 22, 2020.
Additionally, till date 1, 28,517 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 32,077 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 73 in hospital quarantine, 749 in hospital isolation and 25,132 under home surveillance. Besides, 70,466 persons have completed their surveillance period.
The bulletin said that Anantnag district has 266 positive cases, 153 active positive, 109 recovered, four deaths; Kulgam has 193 positive cases, 180 active positive, 12 recoveries, one death; Srinagar has 176 positive cases, 71 active positive, 99 recovered, six deaths; Bandipora has 138 positive cases, eight active positive, 129 recovered, one death; Baramulla has 132 positive cases, 37 active positive, 91 recovered, four deaths.
“Shopian has 127 positive cases, 25 active positive, 102 recovered; Kupwara has 128 positive cases, 79 active positive, 49 recovered; Budgam has 63 positive cases, 26 active positive, 35 recovered, two deaths; Ganderbal has 27 positive cases, 12 active positive and 15 recoveries and Pulwama reported 21 positive cases with 12 active positive, nine recovered,” said the bulletin.
The bulletin said that Jammu has 68 positive cases, 36 active positive, 31 recoveries, one death; Kathua has 40 positive cases, 36 active positive, four recovered; Udhampur has 33 positive cases, 11 active positive, 21 recovered, one death; Ramban has 30 positive cases, 29 active positive and 01 recovered; Samba has 20 positive cases, 13 active positive and seven recoveries.
“Rajouri has 10 positive cases, six active positive, four recovered; Kishtwar has seven positive cases, six active positive and one recovered; Reasi has four positive cases, three active positive and one recovered, Poonch has five positive cases with all of them being active positive while as Doda has one active positive case,” reads the bulletin.
The advisory through the bulletin has informed the people that, the best way to protect themselves from COVID-19 is by maintaining physical distance of at least 2 metres from others, frequently cleaning hands with an alcohol based hand sanitizer or washing them with soap & water and following good respiratory etiquettes and hygiene.
The bulletin again explained that early detection of COVID-19 can prevent the spread of disease so we need to be responsible for the well-being of ourselves and everyone around us. “Not disclosing symptoms could put life of individuals and their families at risk. In case of symptoms like fever, cough and difficulty in breathing report early. Do not fear, call COVID-19 helpline numbers and seek medical advice”.
