Parents confused over collection of tuition fees by private schools
5/23/2020 12:21:53 AM
Early Times Report

Jammu, May 22: The recent order of School Education Department to allow recognised unaided private schools to collect tuition fees from students on monthly basis for the lockdown period has created a confusion among the parents.
The aggrieved parents have claimed that the messages sent by the private schools’ management to them regarding collection of fees lacked details. The message, they said, did not specify the period for which they needed to pay. “Immediately after the government ordered private schools to collect tuition fee on monthly basis, we received the message from the school authorities to deposit the fee through online mode and send snapshot of the receipt for maintaining the accounts”, said Gautam Kumar, a parent.
“But details are missing, for example, whether the school management is asking for monthly fees or quarterly fees – which of course has not been permitted by the government. If tuition fee is to be collected by schools they should specify about all this,” Kumar added.
“Not only that, some private schools apart from sending messages for tuition fees have also directed the parents to collect books from a particular shop. It seems as if schools were just waiting for the government order, so that they can resort to their age old tactics,” pointed Kamlesh, another parent.
“It is clearly mentioned in the government order that annual fees, if any, can be charged monthly on pro-rata basis after schools reopen but still many private schools are asking for the same which is a clear violation of the order. The authorities should get details of fees being collected by private schools from parents so that they come to know whether they have charge anything extra,” opined Vinod Sharma, a parent
