UDHAMPUR, May 22: People of Jammu and Kashmir have strong immunity so there is no need to wear gloves or specialized shoes by the Safai Karamcharis while performing cleanliness work. This was the reply of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Udhampur Municipal Council when he was asked to comment on why the Safai Karamcharis are not wearing gloves and specialized shoes while cleaning the streets, lanes and roads of the town. It is pertinent to mention here that at many places in the town the Safai Karamcharis are not using such safety gears while performing their work despite the fear of Coronavirus everywhere. While Municipal authorities claim that they have given all such safety gears to the Safai Karamcharis same is not everywhere being used by the latter. Sources informed that the Safai Karamcharis are mostly illiterate people and have no knowledge of importance of such safety gears while performing cleanliness tasks. Experts said that there should be some awareness programmes for Safai Karamcharis to make them aware about importance of such safety gears. However, the response of the CEO of Udhampur Municipality lacked prudence and appeared more as a joke on such a sensitive issue. |
