MGNREGA works resume in Doda to address rural distress

DODA, May 25: The District Administration Doda, in its endeavor to provide succor to the rural labour in the wake of COVID-19, has resumed a number of development works in rural parts of the district under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
District Development Commissioner, Doda, Dr Sagar D. Doifode giving details of the works said, that the department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj has commenced a number of works under MGNREGA in different parts of the district which shall be expedited in the coming days. He informed that the plan for the current financial year has been finalized under which 8808 works of different nature stands approved and would start in the coming days. The approved labour budget for the district is 132.60 crore, besides an initial target of generation of 45 lakh mandays fixed for the executing department.
During the last financial year the target for the district was generation of 26.50 lakh mandays against which the district has recorded a phenomenal progress of 37.70 lakh mandays, thereby exceeding the target.
As per the details received from the ACD Office Doda, at present 147 SOS works are going on across the district. Besides these, the work of construction of 5782 PMAY houses is also going on war footing basis.
Speaking about the measures being adopted by District Administration on addressing livelihood issues of rural labourers, the DDC informed that due to closure of all works in the wake of COVID-19 lockdown the rural labourers had been facing lot of hardships. So, he said, the administration has resumed several works under the scheme. He said that already directions has been passed to the field functionaries to follow all the requisite guidelines and especially ensure social distancing and wearing of safety gears to prevent the spread of the pandemic.
