Early Times Report

JAMMU, May 25: All J&K Power Employees including engineers will observe Black day on June 1 in protest against Central government’s move of privatization of DISCOMs.
In response to the call given by National Coordination Committee of Electricity Employees & Engineers, which is joint amalgam of the power employees all across the country including AIPEF, AIFOPDE, AIPF, AIFEE, EEFI, INEWF and LPF, the Jammu & Kashmir Power Engineers and Employees Coordination Committee (JKPEECC) has decided to extends its full support in protesting against the move of Central Government’s Decision of privatization of the DISCOMS of UTs in first move, and have decided to observe June 1 as Black day or “National Protest Day” and all the employees will wear black badges on their arms while working at their workplaces so as to observe symbolic protest in this horrible situation amid COVID-19 pandemic.
The most surprising part is that the whole country is integrally combating menace of COVID-19 pandemic under lock down declared in exercise of power of the Government within the ambit of Disaster Management Act, 2005; on 17th April, MoP notified the Electricity (Amendment) Bill, 2020 seeking public comments within 3 weeks. Main object of the Bill is transferring assets of the power network from Generating Station Bus to doors of 25 crore households and farmers’ fields, industries and all levels of consumers developed through seven decades at the cost of public exchequer to private hands, in other terms cronies closer to government.
JKPEEC which is amalgam of electricity employees and engineers will oppose the Bill clause to clause before the appropriate forum to foil the attempt of the government towards denying the right of access to electricity for poor countrymen and “Annadata”s of the nation.
The wider struggle of Power employees commences with observance of “National Protest Day” or “Black Day” on 1st June, 2020 all over the country wearing black badges, showing black banners to negate the Bill and to seek support of people of India.
The Power Employees and Engineers also urges upon the Lieutenant Governor of UT of J&K, to take up the matter further with the Central government on urgent basis so that UT of J&K and its electrical consumers are not made the subjects for the practical works for implementation of any of such new policies which had failed miserably in other parts of the country.
