EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, May 25: With the resumption of domestic air flights after two months of nationwide lockdown due to COVID-19, the social distancing norms remained elusive at Jammu Airport, where passengers were seen standing and sitting close to each other without maintaining proper distance mentioned in guidelines.
Although the administration had been making tall claims that all requisite arrangements have been put in place to make sure the social distancing and other norms on resumption of air flights to and fro Jammu Airport but the situation inside the premises speaks volume of its false claims and expose its poor management.
Sources told Early Times that the security agencies deployed at the Jammu Airport, which have been given responsibilities for ensuring security as well as implementation of guidelines on COVID-19, were seen adopting casual approach and failed to make the passengers follow the most important norms of maintaining social distancing inside the premises.
They said that the passengers were seen sitting very close to each other defying norms in waiting area. Not only passengers, even the airlines employees were also seen flouting guidelines and standing in proximity.
“There was poor implementation of government’s guidelines at Jammu Airport posing serious threat of getting affected of COVID-19,” said sources.
“Already, the positive cases of COVID-19 are swelling in Jammu with each passing days and now with the resumption of domestic flights, there is every possibility of spurt in cases in coming days with the arrival of passengers in Jammu, who were stranded in different parts of the country,” they added.
They further said that although government of other states have been implementing strictness to make passengers following guidelines at their respective Airports to minimize the threat of getting infected from coronavirus but at Jammu Airport, no such seriousness was seen on the part of concerned authorities.
